Full Bio:

Owen Stewart began his life in the beautiful region of Bahia, Brazil. As a child he watched his grandmother create traditional dishes drawing on the freshness of local indigenous ingredients. His departure from Brazil brought him to south Florida, where he received a liberal arts education akin to most Americans. His heart longed for the comfort and creativity of the kitchen. He saw an opportunity to combine his old world values and his new world opportunities.

He moved to New York and began his culinary training at the New York Restaurant School. He continued his training at La Varenne School in Paris. After working under various chefs around the USA, he began his run with the China Grill properties in 1990. At China Grill NY he worked his way up to the role of Executive Chef. At this position he was able to draw on his ideas of freestyle cooking that the company maintains is world cuisine. As the company continued to expand, Owen is has been called upon to oversee the culinary departments with the opening teams for Asia de Cuba NY, London and LA.

Owen also resided at the Hudson from 2000 to 2003, where he helped to produce a menu that transcends territorial boundaries by using traditional favorites from around the world. These dishes are then “freestyle” and the result is cooking we all long for.

In 2003 Owen moved to Asia De Cuba London as the Executive Chef where he worked to keep it as one of the top restaurants in London. In 2007 he helped to open SUKA the new concept at the Sanderson Hotel, Owen was also promoted to the position of Regional Chef of London.
